Published Monday, June 23, 2003 in the University of St. Thomas Bulletin.

Several prominent white-collar criminals, including former Minneapolis City Council member Brian Herron and Minneapolis financier George Kline, will speak at an upcoming program on white-collar crime, personal responsibility and federal enforcement efforts.

“White Collar Crime and Personal Responsibility” will be held from 1:15 to 5 p.m. Monday, June 30, in Thornton Auditorium on the University of St. Thomas Minneapolis campus. The auditorium is located on the second floor of Murphy Hall, 1000 LaSalle Ave.

The program will include presentations and panel discussions. Several high-profile white-collar criminals from the Twin Cities will speak publicly about their crimes and where they went wrong.

The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the St. Thomas School of Law at (651) 962-4880. Co-sponsors of the program are St. Thomas’ School of Law and College of Business, and the Center for Ethical Business Cultures, which is affiliated with St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota.

In addition to presentations by Herron and Kline, a panel discussion will include Donald Snede, former CFO of Midwest Federal Savings and Loan; Martin Fiterman, former Minneapolis stockbroker; and Marvin Goldstein, former Minneapolis business executive. Moderating the panel will be Lizabeth McKibben, a former assistant U.S. attorney.

U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger will moderate a panel on federal enforcement efforts. Panelists will be Jonnie Nix, special agent in charge, criminal investigations, Internal Revenue Service; Rick Ostrom, supervisory special agent, White-Collar Crime Squad, Federal Bureau of Investigation; and Jeanne Graupmann, postal inspector, U. S. Postal Inspection Service.

Ron James, president of the Center for Ethical Business Cultures, will give concluding remarks on “Building and Sustaining Ethical Cultures.”
