Robert C. Shoemake
Director of Programs & Membership
Center for Ethical Business Cultures

Robert C. Shoemake serves as the Director of Programs & Membership for the Center for Ethical Business Cultures (CEBC) at the University of St. Thomas – Minnesota. The Center is a not–for–profit educational organization which assists business leaders in creating ethical and profitable business cultures at the enterprise, community and global levels. Founded in 1978, CEBC is one of the nation’s oldest business–founded and business–led centers focused on business ethics and corporate citizenship.

 

His responsibilities at the Center include growing its membership base, overseeing the Center’s print publications and media presence, and developing programming in leadership and values, in work/life and the Minnesota Business Ethics Award and Educational Forum. He developed Enhancing an Ethical Business CultureSM, one of the Center’s ethical leadership development tools for senior business leaders.

 

Mr. Shoemake has worked in business, academia and the non-profit sector, for organizations that include IVI Publishing (now part of WebMD.com), Marshall Fields, The United Methodist Church and the University of St. Thomas. He is a member of the adjunct faculty at St. Thomas, teaching in both its College of Business and its Department of Theology.

 

He serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Chorale and is a member of the Midwest Advisory Group of ECLOF USA. He helped to found the Rochester (MN) Area Habitat for Humanity, chairing its Family Selection Committee, and has served on numerous other non–profit boards. 

 

Mr. Shoemake received a Master of Divinity from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology and a Bachelor of Music Education in voice and choral conducting from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He has completed further graduate study at institutions in South Carolina and Minnesota.

 

Born in Florida and reared in South Carolina, he has lived in Minnesota since 1983. His interests include reading, gardening, cooking, wine, pottery, theatre, film and music of many kinds, especially choral singing.
