  1. WORK AND FAMILY: MCCR's Task Force on Work and Family, led by Clint Larson, plans a major regional conference June 11 and 12 in Minneapolis titled Creating a High Performance Organization: A Work and Family Perspective. The event features leading speakers on organizational development and change as well as Work and Family. One key speaker will be Brad Googins, director of the nationally acclaimed Center on Work and Family at Boston University. All member companies are urged to attend. Marketing information will be mailed soon. Please mark you calendars now for June 11-12!

  2. MCCR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CREATED: A committee of member company executives has been formed to provide the Center with advice on priorities, programs and implementation strategies. Clint Larson will chair the Committee -- first meeting is May 10. A committee roster is attached; new members may be added. You can reach Clint at 612/951-0085.

  3. PRINCIPLES FOR BUSINESS: MCCR sent the CRT Principles of Business to all Fortune 1000 CEOs along with a survey and asked them to reflect the Principles in their own Codes. Seventy-one companies have responded to date, and fifty-four have sent MCCR copies of their own Codes of Conduct. Many firms asked for extra copies of the CRT Principles.

  4. CAUX ROUND TABLE MEETING: Medtronic chair Win Wallin is the Caux Round Table chairperson for this year. At the April meeting in New York, Bob MacGregor reported on MCCR's progress in collecting codes of conduct from Fortune 1000 companies. Clint Larson led a discussion on Work and Family.

  5. CHARACTER COUNTS! sm: MCCR convened a steering group in March to discuss next steps in launching a Minnesota CHARACTER COUNTS! project for teaching Six Pillars of Character to youth. MCCR staffer Terri Hastings attended the CHARACTER COUNTS! coalition meeting in Washington, D.C. on March 29 to learn how the program is implemented in other communities.

  6. BSR UPDATE: Clint Larson attended a regional Businesses for Social Responsibility meeting on Violence and the Media. MCCR staff have met with BSR leaders to discuss cooperation in programming.

  7. MCCR PROMOTES BUSINESS ETHICS: Bob MacGregor addressed the National Conference on Applied Ethics in March on the challenge of "Finding Common Business Values in an Interconnected World." Bob spoke also on the Principles for Business to the regional conference of Businesses for Social Responsibility at Northwestern University and to a U. N. meeting in New York.

  8. MCCR ANNUAL MEETING PLANNED: MCCR's Annual Meeting for all members and guests is set for the evening of May 21. Business Week economic policy columnist Robert Kuttner will speak on the Battle Over Corporate Responsibilities: Creating a New Social Compact. Kuttner's remarks will be followed by a Panel of Minnesota Leaders. Please mark your calendars!

  9. MELROSE ON TURF AND CHANGE: Toro CEO Ken Melrose addressed an April 3 meeting sponsored jointly by MCCR and the UST Management Center on Servant Leadership: A CEO Perspective.

  10. AUTHORS SPEAK AT MCCR: David Korten, author of When Corporations Rule the World, laid out his critique of globalization March 1 to members and later on Minnesota Public Radio. Visiting Fullbright Scholar Debashis Chatterjee spoke April 11 to a capacity crowd on "Leading Consciously: An Eastern Perspective on Spirituality and Modern Management."

  11. EDUCATION AND BUSINESS: Chairman Jim Renier and Bob MacGregor met with Metro School Superintendents involving business in public education. Mr. Renier is much sought after as a speaker on youth, education and parenting.

  12. ALIGNING VALUES AND PERFORMANCE: Consultants Chuck Kingsley and Carol Pine are preparing a series of roundtable discussions among MCCR members to follow-up our successful January meeting on how to bring organizational systems into alignment with values and ethical standards.
