CEBC Releases Latest Report: New Obstacles in Setting the Tone at the Top…and Some Solutions

Authored by Richard F. Ziegler, Managing Partner of Jenner and Block’s New York office and former Senior Vice President Legal Affairs and General Counsel of the 3M Company, this report examines the role of the Board of Directors in “setting the tone at the top.” Writing as an Executive Fellow for the Center, Richard explores the genesis of the Board’s role in “setting the tone at the top” then quickly addresses several important dilemmas and some solutions.

Call for Nominations

The Twin Cities Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, the Center for Ethical Business Cultures and the Rotary Club of Edina Call for Nominations for the 2009 Minnesota Business Ethics Award. Nominations close on Friday, 30 January 2009. Nominated companies are asked to complete and return an Entry Form. MBEA recipients will be recognized at an Awards Luncheon Wednesday, 20 May 2009.

Essay Competition

Essays are now being accepted for the Ethics Essay Competition sponsored by Rotary Districts 5950, Rotary District 5960 and the Center for Ethical Business Cultures (CEBC). The essay competition is open to sophomore, junior and senior high school students within Rotary Districts 5950 and 5960. One grand prize of $2,000, one second prize of $1,000 and two third prizes of $500 each will be awarded. The monetary prizes are to be utilized to further a student’s education. [If in the opinion of the judges no acceptable essay is submitted, no awards will be given.] Essays must be received by January 31, 2009.

Apply Now - Business, Law and Ethics in the European Union - Experience the challenge of negotiating an international contract while exploring the dynamics of global business in the European Union. This graduate level course focuses on globalization and its impact on business with a particular emphasis on EU and U.S. business and legal perspectives, ethics and culture. You will travel to the heart of the EU - Belgium and Germany - where you will meet with German students and learn through on-site interactive visits, cultural immersion, discussion and reflection. 

The University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business and the Center for Ethical Business Cultures jointly offer this 3-credit MBA course. Course Dates: May 25 – June 6, 2009.
